Description

ACT Fulfillment is looking for a motivated, self-starter, Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join a growing team. Onboard as a valuable partner to work with cross-functional teams for an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company. We have three facilities covering over 1.5 million square feet and serves many customers from a wide variety of industries. From electronics, automotive parts, consumer goods, footwear and apparel, the service offering is broad but at the same time remains focused on quality and accuracy. Job Expectations:

 

  • Partners with Human Resources and Operations team, as well as cross-functional teams throughout the company, in providing support to establish a safe, secure and efficient work environment
  • Drives change and implements new programs by providing comprehensive risk assessments, safety audits, including safety data analysis, and project tasks for completion
  • Coordinates and schedules the ACT forklift driver certification/recertification program, tracking expiration of certification cards, initiate train-the-trainer program
  • Partners with Operations management for building maintenance, coordinates vendor services for repairs to ensure that all facilities are in compliance with safety regulations
  • Develops and implements Accident Prevention Plan (APP), Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Environmental Health Safety (EHS), Emergency Disaster Preparedness Programs; ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Oversees the warehouse safety effort and ensure compliance for lockout/tag out, confined space, fall protection, powered industrial vehicles in adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Conducts inspections of the facility, machinery and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and administer control methods to ensure safety regulatory compliance
  • Ensures Worker’s Compensation Claims Management program is administered in an effective and compliant manner in partnership with Human Resources team including, accident/injury investigations, data analysis, and recurrence prevention program and procedures
  • Partners with Human Resources team for Workers Compensation reports, leave of absences, restrictions, accommodations
  • Responds and provides assistance in all emergency situations as the liaison with the safety triage vendor to provide first aid to employees as needed
  • Onboard, train, coordinate all required safety training and maintain all safety training records as required by company policy, federal and state regulations
  • Ensures safety training for all ACT new hires, agency employees, contractors for new hire orientation onboarding
  • Spends time on the warehouse floor/grounds scanning warehouse floor for potential hazards, identify safety/security violations
  • Implements and leads a Safety Committee that will be a conduit for communication and awareness, including participating in safety related projects
  • Purchases and maintaisn the safety related inventory items, such as first aid supplies and PPE needed for the facilities
  • Conducts emergency response drills on an annual basis, report results to management, and implements identified corrective actions
  • Implements safety incentive programs by compiling department results on a monthly basis,  promote recognition to employees though monthly, quarterly, annual celebrations
  • Implements various communication tools and methods to create safety awareness, i.e., presentations, posting with TV monitors, bulletin boards, emails
  • Conducts investigations for accidents/illness reports using comprehensive process knowledge techniques
  • Manages and operates company’s surveillance system, provide video findings for Human Resources and Operations investigations
  • Provides support in issuing company badges for employees, temporary employees, visitors for onsite security access

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements that govern worker health and safety, physical assessment and ergonomic skills
  • Strong presentation skills for training, effective communicator
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, proven ability to work and communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, build trust and confidence with management, employees
  • Experience in a multi-shift operation a plus
  • CPR and First Aid certified
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports
  • Required to travel 25% to all warehouse facilities
  • Bilingual In English/Spanish preferred

 

Equipment Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge in surveillance camera monitoring software
  • Proficient computer skills

 

Experience Requirements:

Generally requires a minimum of five (5) years in safety and security, risk management or related experience in a logistics or manufacturing environment. Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience.

 

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety Environment and Health, Loss Prevention or related field preferred or a combination of education and equivalent work experience. OSHA 30-hour certification is a plus.

 

Judgment/Reasoning AbilityAble to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems quickly using sound judgment, poise and diplomacy. Ability to use judgment and reasoning skills, and determine when to escalate issues, as required, in a timely manner.

 

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers, bend, stoop and reach with hands and arms. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to perform essential duties throughout the workday. The employee may occasionally lift or move materials and products up to 25 pounds. Proper lifting techniques required. Work EnvironmentThe noise in the work environment is usually moderate. Other factors are:

  • Fast-paced warehouse work environment with multi-level distractions
  • Professional, yet casual work environment
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Occasionally exposed to outside/inside cold and heat weather conditions
  • Ability to work extended hours as required
