Position: Assistant Planning Engineer/Hydraulic Modeler

Location: Fontana/El Monte, California Classification: Full-Time/Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Planning Manager, assist in the preparation of a variety of planning and engineering studies, hydraulic models, plans, exhibits and reports for water production, treatment, storage and distribution facilities and structures and assist in the preparation and update of San Gabriel’s master plan.

JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Prepare designs in accordance with applicable codes and standards. * Assist in the preparation of the capital improvement program budgets. * Assist in the preparation of design reports, plans, calculations, project schedules, cost estimates, analyses for capital improvement projects. * Perform hydraulic modeling studies and analyses. * Assist to perform condition assessments of San Gabriel’s capital infrastructure. * Assist in the preparation of descriptions, exhibits, and justifications for capital improvement projects. * Other tasks and duties as directed.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Knowledge of civil engineering design theory, principles, and construction practices in modern water treatment, production and distribution facilities. * Good ability to write legibly and have good reading skills, as well as ability to quickly comprehend. * Computing skills and knowledge of and experience with a variety of computer modeling, design and software packages, such as Microsoft Office, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, hydraulic modeling software such as WaterCAD or WaterGEMS, GIS software, and other modeling software. * Familiarity of the latest version of AutoCad/Civil 3D. * Ability to follow technical specifications and assist in the design water distribution projects utilizing computer-aided design software. * Knowledge of GIS related software. * Excellent analytical skills. * Ability to produce neat and accurate drawings. * Good general mathematical ability. * Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing * Ability to follow oral and written instructions. * Ability to interact with other employees and the public in a cooperative and professional manner. * Must be dependable, punctual, and have a neat and presentable appearance. * Ability to perform repetitive physical activities including walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending, digging, stooping, climbing and lifting up to 25 lbs.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: * Recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering; * Engineer-in-Training certification preferred. * Minimum of 1 year of experience in water distribution system design and planning preferred. * Valid California driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
