POSITION DESCRIPTION

Working under the direction of the College Careers and Economic Department and High School Principal or Designee, the instructor will be responsible for implementing the

Automotive Maintenance Light Repair program that prepares students for entry into capstone courses and workforce. Students explore career opportunities and

requirements of a professional service technician. The Automotive Technology Teacher will use ASE Education Foundation curriculum to provide instruction for automotive

classes. Content emphasizes transportation service skills and workplace success skills. Students study safety, tools, equipment, shop operations, engine fundamentals, and

technician skills. Completion of Maintenance Light Repair 1, 2, and 3 (MLR) will give the student an essential foundation in the operation, maintenance, and repair of

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions):

• Maintain instructor’s industry-recognized ASE/NATEF certification training necessary

to support the classroom and students.

• Maintain records related to student performance and attendance.

• Maintain current information and awareness of industry standards for the

Automotive industry.

• Maintain training lab and attend industry advisory meetings.

• Support the core academic programs on campus through Professional Learning

Communities.

• Support Skills USA or other student leadership initiatives.

• Perform related duties as assigned/required.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Credentials and Experience:

• Appropriate CTE Transportation or Designated Subjects teaching credential or

eligibility for appropriate credential

• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)/ National Automotive Technicians Education

Foundation (NATEF) certification

1. A-4 Suspension and Steering

2. A-5 Brakes

3. A-6 Electrical/Electronic Systems

4. G-1 Maintenance and Light Repair

• EL Authorization (may be obtained after employment)

For verification of eligibility, the following must be submitted with application if the

applicant does not hold the appropriate credential:

o Verify three years of work experiencedirectly relatedto each subject. Oneyear

equals 1,000 clock hours

o May substitute48 semesterunitsofpostsecondaryvocationalcoursework

related to the subject for a maximum of two of the three years of work

experience

Additionally,oneofthefollowingmaybeusedasoneyear of work experience toward

meeting the three years of required experience:

o Possession of an advanced industry certificate related to the industry sector

to be named on the preliminary credential, as determined by a Commission[1]approved CTE program sponsor

o One year of full-time general education teaching experience

o At least one year of the required work experience must be within the five

years immediately preceding the issuance of the credential


Knowledge of:

• Current technology and skills required in general automotive maintenance and

repair

• Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation

• Instructional strategies

Ability to:

• Communicate effectively, both verbal and in writing

• Establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course

of work

• Prepare reports and maintain records

• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions


Must Possess:

• Organization and communication skills

• Specialized knowledge of training in instruction

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Valid California Driver’s License

Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned performance

responsibilities which are essential functions of this job description are the following

essential physical requirements:

• Ability to work at a desk, conference table, or in meetings of various configurations

• Ability to circulate for extended periods of time

• Ability to see for purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies, other

printed matter, and observing students

• Ability to understand speech at normal levels

• Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation
